Nevada esthetician scope of practice

What can an esthetician do in Nevada?

Nevada licenses estheticians as an Esthetician through the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology. A basic Esthetician may cleanse, massage and beautify skin with cosmetic preparations or noninvasive devices that are not esthetic medical devices, and may perform exfoliation that does not remove any skin below the stratum corneum. Below: whether that license covers microneedling, chemical peels, dermaplaning, laser and IPL, and Botox or fillers, each answered from Nevada's own statutes, board rules or board statements, read on October 27, 2026.

Microneedling

Can estheticians do microneedling in Nevada?

Only with conditions. Microneedling is an advanced esthetic procedure, so it requires an advanced esthetician license; advanced estheticians may use microneedling needles only if needle gauge and penetration do not exceed 1.5 mm, unless a health care professional directly supervises.

Chemical peels

Can estheticians do chemical peels in Nevada?

Only with conditions. Medium-depth chemical peels, which remove skin through the epidermis and papillary dermis, require an advanced esthetician license; the basic license covers only exfoliation that does not remove any skin below the stratum corneum.

Dermaplaning

Can estheticians do dermaplaning in Nevada?

Yes. Dermaplaning is named in the basic scope as exfoliation that does not remove any skin below the stratum corneum, so no advanced license is required.

Laser and IPL

Can estheticians do laser hair removal in Nevada?

Only with conditions. Lasers are esthetic medical devices outside the basic license; an advanced esthetician may perform nonablative laser procedures only under health care professional supervision and a Board-approved collaboration agreement, and may never perform ablative laser procedures.

Botox and fillers

Can estheticians do Botox or fillers in Nevada?

No. Board rule NAC 644A.790 lists the injection or administration of any substance among prohibited invasive procedures for licensees, so estheticians may not inject Botox or dermal fillers.

Advanced license

Does Nevada have a master esthetician license?

Advanced Esthetician. Adds advanced esthetic procedures, including microneedling and medium-depth chemical peels, and allows nonablative esthetic medical procedures only under health care professional supervision.

Good to know

What else Nevada says about an esthetician's scope

  • A device for skin care is within the basic license only if it is noninvasive and is not an esthetic medical device; prescription lasers are esthetic medical devices.
  • An advanced esthetician must have a collaboration agreement with the supervising health care professional approved by the Board before performing a nonablative procedure.
  • An advanced esthetician may perform advanced esthetic procedures only in a licensed cosmetological establishment licensed to offer advanced esthetics services.
