Nebraska esthetician scope of practice

What can an esthetician do in Nebraska?

Nebraska licenses estheticians as an Esthetician through the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Licensure Unit (Board of Cosmetology, Electrology, Esthetics, Nail Technology, and Body Art). A licensed esthetician may, for compensation, use electrical or mechanical apparatus or apply cosmetic preparations, chemicals and similar products upon the skin for personal beauty care, and the board's advisory opinion limits esthetic practice to the epidermis. Below: whether that license covers microneedling, chemical peels, dermaplaning, laser and IPL, and Botox or fillers, each answered from Nebraska's own statutes, board rules or board statements, read on October 27, 2026.

Microneedling

Can estheticians do microneedling in Nebraska?

Only with conditions. Estheticians may use microneedling with needles up to and including 0.5 mm; larger needles are for medical use only, according to the board's advisory opinion.

Chemical peels

Can estheticians do chemical peels in Nebraska?

Only with conditions. Estheticians may use only mild peels that do not penetrate into the dermis, according to the board's advisory opinion.

Dermaplaning

Can estheticians do dermaplaning in Nebraska?

Yes. The board's advisory opinion places dermaplaning within esthetic practice as an exfoliating treatment used on the outer layer of skin.

Laser and IPL

Can estheticians do laser hair removal in Nebraska?

No. The board's advisory opinion says lasers are not within the esthetics practice and attributes that position to the Medical Board.

Botox and fillers

Can estheticians do Botox or fillers in Nebraska?

No. A licensed esthetician may not give Botox or other neurotoxins, dermal fillers, or other injections, because the esthetics board places services below the epidermis outside esthetics scope.

Advanced license

Does Nebraska have a master esthetician license?

Nebraska's official pages we read name no advanced or master esthetician license; the basic Esthetician license is the one that sets the scope.
