Ohio esthetician scope of practice
What can an esthetician do in Ohio?
Ohio licenses estheticians as an Esthetician through the Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board. A basic esthetician license covers only the practice of esthetics in a licensed facility, limited to beautification, relaxation and non-invasive services. Below: whether that license covers microneedling, chemical peels, dermaplaning, laser and IPL, and Botox or fillers, each answered from Ohio's own statutes, board rules or board statements, read on October 27, 2026.

Microneedling
Can estheticians do microneedling in Ohio?
No. Ohio's esthetician rule bars estheticians from piercing the outer skin layer except for a narrow comedo or milia lancet use, which rules out microneedling under a basic esthetician license.
Chemical peels
Can estheticians do chemical peels in Ohio?
Only with conditions. Peels are allowed at 30% concentration or less with a pH of at least 3; stronger or lower-pH peels need a commercially approved product, manufacturer documentation that it does not penetrate below the stratum corneum, and documented training.
Dermaplaning
Can estheticians do dermaplaning in Ohio?
Only with conditions. Blade exfoliation is allowed only as mechanical exfoliation limited to the stratum corneum, since estheticians may not pierce it; hair removal is within the practice of esthetics.
Laser and IPL
Can estheticians do laser hair removal in Ohio?
Only with conditions. Light-based hair removal is allowed only when a physician delegates it to a listed delegate, and an esthetician license alone is not a listed delegate; vascular laser skin procedures may be delegated only to PAs, RNs and LPNs.
Botox and fillers
Can estheticians do Botox or fillers in Ohio?
No. Ohio's esthetician rule bars estheticians from piercing the outer skin layer and limits their scope to non-invasive services, so Botox, neurotoxins, dermal fillers and other injections are outside a basic esthetician license.
Advanced license
Does Ohio have a master esthetician license?
Advanced license to practice esthetics. Issued after 1,800 hours of esthetics practice or 150 hours of board-approved advanced esthetician training, and it still covers only the practice of esthetics.
