First-party data
The client information your business collects directly (contacts, visit history, preferences), owned by you rather than rented from a platform.
First-party data is the information you gather directly from your own clients: names, phone numbers and emails, visit history, services booked, formulas, preferences, spend, and reviews. It is different from data you rent from a platform (an Instagram audience, a marketplace's client list) because you own it, it does not disappear when an app changes its rules, and it is specific to the people who actually pay you. For a salon it lives in your booking system and your client CRM.
It is the fuel for every profitable retention and marketing move, and retention is where the money is: acquiring a new client costs five to 25 times more than keeping one, and lifting each client's visit frequency by just one appointment a year can raise revenue by up to 30%. You can only run rebooking reminders, win-back texts, birthday offers, and personalized recommendations if you have clean first-party data behind them. Rented audiences cannot do this.
Owning it also protects you: reminder and marketing texts built on your own opted-in list are the compliant, deliverable path (see SMS marketing compliance (TCPA)). Your salon AI should keep this data in one place and acts on it. Explore Client CRM and Rebooking & Retention.
