Point of sale (POS)
The system that rings up a client's payment and records what they bought, tying each sale to the client and the service.
Point of sale (POS) is where the transaction happens: the tool that takes a client's payment for services and retail, applies tips and discounts, and records exactly what was sold. In a salon or spa, a good POS does more than accept a card. It links every sale to the client record and the service provider, tracks retail inventory, splits commission, and feeds your reporting so you can see revenue by stylist, service, and product.
The POS is also where retail profit is captured, and retail is disproportionately profitable: professional products carry roughly a 50% margin versus about 8% on services, so prompting and recording product sales at checkout meaningfully lifts the bottom line. Because the POS sits at the end of every visit, it is the natural place to capture the First-party data (contact details, consent, purchase history) that powers rebooking and marketing later.
A POS wired into booking and CRM removes double entry and closes the loop from appointment to payment to follow-up, part of why integrated software saves owners 5 to 7 hours of admin a week. SalonAI connects checkout to the rest of the business. See Payments & Retail and compare options under salon POS.
