Client Lifetime Value (CLV)
The total revenue you can expect from one client across their entire relationship with you.
Client lifetime value, or CLV, is the total amount a single client is worth over the whole time they stay with you, not just what they spend on one visit. A rough version is your Average Ticket multiplied by visit frequency multiplied by the number of years they stay. It is the number that reframes every decision: a $77 haircut is not a $77 transaction, it is the first payment on a relationship that could be worth thousands.
CLV is driven by three levers you can actually move: how much each visit is worth, how often clients come in, and how long they stay. The average salon client visits 4.88 times a year, though 7 to 8 is considered ideal, so frequency alone is a large untapped reserve: adding just one visit per client per year can raise revenue by as much as 30%. Duration is governed by your Client Retention Rate, and value per visit by your Retail Attachment (Retail-to-Service Ratio) and upsell mix.
Understanding CLV changes how much you can rationally spend to win and keep a client, which is why it underpins Win-Back and Loyalty Program strategy. Track it with a client CRM, grow the frequency side with rebooking and retention automation, and grow the value side with retail and payments tools.
