Average Ticket
The average amount a client spends per visit, across services, retail, and add-ons.
Average ticket (sometimes called average transaction value) is the mean amount a client spends in a single visit, counting the service plus any retail products, add-on treatments, and upgrades. It is one of the fastest levers in the business because raising it does not require a single extra client or appointment slot: the same visit simply becomes worth more.
Average ticket varies enormously by business type, which tells you where the headroom is. Median ticket runs $216 at a med spa versus $77 at a salon and $34 at a barbershop, and average revenue per spa visit reached $123.10 in 2025. The single biggest lever within a visit is retail, because professional salon products carry roughly a 50% margin versus about 8% on services, so an extra product on the ticket is disproportionately profitable.
Average ticket is a core input to Client Lifetime Value (CLV) alongside visit frequency, and it is closely tied to Retail Attachment (Retail-to-Service Ratio) and to Package and Membership structures that bundle more value into each transaction. Grow it with retail and payments tools that make add-ons and product sales a natural part of checkout.
